About Eat Cake Magazine

Design Challenge

Create a food-focused magazine that not only celebrates the joy, creativity, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, but also serves as a powerful tool for connection, resistance, and visibility during a time of growing social and political injustice.

Design Solution

Eat Cake is a food magazine rooted in the belief that joy is resistance. Born from the idea that the kitchen is a space of connection, care, and community, Eat Cake celebrates the power of gathering—through cooking, storytelling, and shared meals. In the face of injustice, it offers warmth, love, and laughter at the table. Each issue centers queer voices and flavors, while supporting LGBTQ+ rights through action: a portion of all proceeds is donated to organizations protecting and uplifting the community. Because when the world says “Let them eat cake,” we say, hell yes we will.

Eat Cake is crafted for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies aged 16 and up who value food as both a creative outlet and a tool for community building. With a focus on middle- to upper-income readers (total household income of $80K+)
